Alex Harley to Stay with the Storm for

2013 Season
Santa Clarita, California - Alex Harlley, who was second in scoring and the leader in assists, resigned with the Storm for the 2013 season. The 6 foot 1 inch native of Togo, Africa, & nephew of one of the biggest legends in European soccer; Emanuel Adebayor, has confirmed he will play for the Santa Clarita Storm in 2013. Harlley found quite the partner when he teamed up with Tyler Coombes as one of the deadliest tanums in the Southwest Division of the N.P.S.L. in 2012. Coombes was the top goal scorer for the Storm and was assisted by Harlley on almost every one of his goals. Harlley lead the team in assists in 2012 with 12 and was second in goals scored with 6 for a total of 24 points. After the 2012 season Harlley attended Yavapai college in Arizona where he scored 22 goals within 20 games & had an additional 17 assists to accumulate a total of 61 points. He ended his first season first in the league in goals, first in assists, first in points & first in minutes played, capturing another M.V.P award and a league title!This will be Harlley's third year with the Storm, where he has averaged over 1,170 minutes in each of his first two seasons. Alex arrived in the U.S in February of 2010 thinking he was here to do nothing but play soccer, after all, that had become his life back home. However, Kodjo Harlley (his Father) shortly let him know he was here for an education. It's hard to imagine being 17 in your own home country, never having a necessity for  any schooling & focusing on nothing but training day in and day out, only to be
 moved off to a new, unfamiliar country only to have to refocus on making up the last two years of school missed - entering High School as a sophomore instead of a senior. Alex was faced with some big challenges not speaking much English and not knowing anyone at all. It was quite a struggle for the past two years, but Alex had much determination & a lot of support from his high school coach; Anthony Ramos. It has been two years and he is doing great in school and is right at home as always on the pitch. A star on the Rosamond High  School boys soccer team, Alex scored 14 goals for his team and lead the league for two years in a row. In his last year of high school Alex won the M.V.P and the Golden Boot (most goals scored) award. Alex then signed with the Lancaster Rattlers of the U.S.L Premier Development League. After graduating high school Alex went on the Yavapai on a full soccer scholarship.Alex will join Coombes, Bueno, Shaxton and many others on the pitch March 23rd, 2013 when the Santa Clarita Storm face F.C Hasental in the 2013 Open Cup Qualifier at Canyon High School.More information can be found on our web site at

March 11, 2013- Futbol Club Santa Clarita/The Santa Clarita Storm announced the resigning of top forward Tyler Coombes to a one year contract extension. Coombes who lead the scoring for the Santa Clarita based Men's team of the National Premier Soccer League. Coombes combined for a total of 32 points with 15 goals and 2 assist in 12 games last season for the Storm. “Tyler sparks the offensive attack in almost every game”. Brunner went on to say, Last season Coombes and his counter part Alex Harlley an outside midfielder played off each other a lot. The goals most anyway where assisted by Harlley. They played off each other very well, Brunner said. They were a one two punch combination that was very successful. “That's how you can tell they know how to do their jobs is when one is a Scoring leader and the other an assist leader.” Coombes a forward with speed and tactical and technical skill that makes him a threat to each team he faces.

Soccer began early for Tyler in youth club level and grew up with it to the High School and College game. At high school Tyler in his Sophomore year, Junior, and varsity captured the MVP award and played at the Varsity level in both his Junior and Senior years. Received first team all League honors in his Junior year as well as Defensive player of the year. Tyler really came to his own in his senior year when capturing MVP, Golden Boot Award Captain of his team First Team All League, MVP of Senior All Star Game.

At Cal State LA College in 2009 had the goal of the year award and signed in 2010 with the Lancaster Rattlers of the Untied Soccer Leagues the former Storm when they where located in the Antelope Valley,. The level of play in the fourth division of US Soccer didn't slow Tyler down at all in 2010 he started all 16 games of the season and came back in 2011 as the Rattlers joined the National Premier Soccer League and changed the name to Rattlers FC where Tyler was leading the Team as Captain and was the leading score and tied in Assist. The Team then moved to Santa Clarita and was re branded as the Santa Clarita Storm and in 2012 Tyler Again lead his team in scoring and goals. And actually did lead the team to the playoffs. In the finial game of the 2012 season the Storm faced a big Challenge, they where one win away from a play off spot competing with the Fullerton Rangers. The only thing that stood in their way was the Undefeated San Diego Flash the Conference leaders and have been unbeatable all year. 3-0 lead was not enough to be secure against a team like the Flash, as they bounced back and tied the game. The Storm was a must win situation as they now faced possible play-off elimination. With that in mind the combination of Harlley and Coombes came alive as a pass from Harlley to Coombes who out maneuvered the Flash keeper and lead the team to a 4-1 win and to the playoffs for he first time in the clubs six year history. When asked of Head Coach Jose Meza what it meant to the team to re-sign his top scorer “ He is important to the team, he is a good player that is ready for the next level. He scored a good part of the goals for us last season, so he is very important that we re-sign him”

Storm Signs Three Local's to the 2013 Roster

  Santa Clarita,California – The Santa Clarita Storm announced today they have signed three local players for the 2013 season; Joel Gunterman, Nick Rowin &  Andres Bueno. Reported by the Storm on Saturday March 2nd was as follows;  “We have added one local returning player - Andres Bueno & two others; Joel Guterman and Nick Rowin to one year contracts”; said Storm CEO Gerald Brunner. "We were looking to add to our roster's already solid strength, ability & experience" Brunner continued, "We were looking to strengthen our backline as well as our midfield. We feel we have helped solidify the backline with adding Joel & Nick, and Joel can also play in the midfield helping Andres - who can also play up top.

Joel played with the Lancaster Rattlers of the Antelope Valley in 2008 & works at College of the Canyons in Valencia as a Strength and Conditioning coach for the Men's soccer team. Gunterman comes to the Storm with a great deal of the
experience, strength, and ability. "We were looking for a defender that not only has accomplished his defending position but he is a player that can play any position on the field if asked, that alone makes Joel very valuable"; Said Brunner. Joel attended College of the Canyons from 2003-2005 and further went on to Kansas Wesleyan University where he lead the team to a  KCAC conference title his very first year. Joel also managed to make the First Team All Conference award as well as First Team All Region..The Storm also has sign Nick Rowin - another player born and raised in Santa Clarita and a teammate of Gunterman's at College of the Canyons and
Kansas Wesleyan. Nick, like Joel, is a universal player but mainly in a defensive midfield position. Rowin with Gunterman helped lead Kansas Wesleyan to championships in 2005, '06, '07 & '08.
  “ I'm excited about the opportunity with the Storm and looking forward to grow with the team and helping in its success.” said Rowin about his signing with the Storm. The Storm looks to Rowin as a future leader on the team and to help guide it to the National Championship.

Andres Bueno returns again to the Storm for his third year, Bueno is an outside Midfielder /forward Bueno like Gunterman and Rowin he attend College of the Canyons and grew up in Santa Clarita now living in Canyon Country Bueno is going to bring more added talent to our offensive attack. Bueno played in Santa Clarita while growing up,in 2006 won the second team all league, 2007 received the Scholar Athlete Award and in 2008 received First team award by the Los Angeles county board of Supervisors. And 2009 while at College of the Canyons Bueno picked up a few accomplishments such as Scoring leader with 24 goals 10 assists for 58 points second in all of California and was awarded the MVP award, 2009 was selected as a member of the NSCAA All American Team from College of the Canyons. 2010 Bueno was signed to the Lancaster Rattlers of the USL PDL team .

“These three signings will do what we had set out to do add strength, ability and experience”.

 The National Premier Soccer League doesn’t yet know how many berths it will have in the 100th Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, but the league’s Western Conference already has its qualifying tournament set.
The six-team tournament for the Southern Division kicks off March 16 with FC Hasental playing host to league newcomer Las Vegas Stallions.
A day later, the Orange County Spartans — formerly known as the Fullerton Rangers — play host to San Diego Boca FC in a rematch of last year’s Open Cup qualifying final. The Rangers beat Boca 3-2 last spring to earn their first Open Cup berth, and lost to the PDL’s Ventura County Fusion 6-2 after extra time in their tournament debut.

 Reigning regular-season conference champion San Diego Flash and FC Santa Clarita received first-round byes in this year’s tournament and will host semifinal matches on March 23. The Flash will face either Orange County or city rival Boca, while Santa Clarita will take on the winner of the Hasental-Las Vegas match. The final is set for March 30.
 The NPSL reportedly has requested eight berths in this year’s Open Cup, which would give each of the league’s four conferences two spots apiece. If that is the case, one West berth would go to the Southern Division and the other to the Northern.

The Northern Division kicks off their 5-team tournament on March 9 when CD Aguiluchos USA takes on the Sacramento Gold. The winner will face Real San Jose in the semifinals on March 16. In the other semifinal on the same day, the San Francisco Stompers will square off with the Sonoma County Sol. The final is scheduled to be played on March 23.
The Sol are the only team among the Northern Division teams who has qualified for the US Open Cup. They have reached the tournament four times: 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010. They have a 1-3-2 (1-1 in PKs) record in their four appearances with their lone regulation win coming against the PDL’s Orange County Blue Star in 2009.
Last year, the NPSL received 6.5 spots and the West had 1.5 berths. The Rangers qualified while the Bay Area Ambassadors claimed the “half berth.” Bay Area faced fellow California club Stanislaus United Turlock Express in a play-in game — Stanislaus United won that match 3-0 to become the first US Club Soccer team to qualify for the Open Cup.

NPSL South Western Conference Releases Schedule for 2013

 The South West Conference of the National Premier Soccer League Releases 2013 Schedule

Southwest division of the Western Conference has released their 2013 schedule. The Schedule consist of 14 games seven home games and seven away games. The schedule will be off-set by the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Qualifier that will be on March 23^rd at Canyon High School in a 5:00 pm kick off.

The Storms home games will be held at their home stadium Canyon High school at 19300 Nadal in Canyon Country.
