Player of the game
Storm Keeper Steven Rodriguez was named player of the game in his
2-1 win over the San Diego Boca last Saturday at Harry Welch Stadium at
Canyon High School. Rodriguez had 9 saves with 6 of them in the first
half of the game. Rodriguez made four saves in a row that saved the
game. One on a shot that was headed in and Steven made a dive for it
and saved it pushing it out the side. Then in the very next play Boca
came back and shot a bullet that was headed in and Steven jumped and
collected it to make another save. A may-lay in front of the net
produced a shot when Steven was out of the goal and he made a slide in
to the goal on the goal line and put himself behind the ball for the
save. Another Shot form 20 yards out that was headed in by way of the
upper part of the goal, Steven leaped getting his figures on it enough
to push the ball over the top bar. Rodriguez earn this 2-1 win and help
put his team in second place tied with the San Diego Flash. With out
the timely saves of Rodriguez the Storm would of not been celebrating a
victory. The player of the game is submitted to the league office and is
sent to media across the nation for consideration for National honors.
Storms Tyler Coombes and Andres Bueno won the National Player of the
week honors in April.
