Storms Keeper moves up to USL Pro level

Santa Clarita , California  - LA Blues of the United Soccer Leagues Pro Division signed Santa Clarita Storms Goalkeeper Aaron Perez for the remainder of the 2013 season. Perez is a former football player, who played for the UCLA Bruins in college and had stints with the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins as a punter, before turning to soccer. Aaron signed with the Santa Clarita Storm this past off season and recorded 4 wins 1 loss with 4 goals against while facing 29 shots and saving 23 in 360 mins played in 5 games. Aaron will start for the Blues tonight 5-7-13 in league play facing the LA Galaxy at 7pm at the Home Depot Center. When asked Aaron said " I'm very excited (naturally) and looking forward to this opportunity although I have really enjoyed being apart of the Storm and I have enjoyed my teammates. I'm thankful for this opportunity the Blues have given me as well." Storms Head Coach  Jose Mesa commented on the move as being really good for Aaron and for the Storm. " I'm glad and the other players can see what I've been telling them, and that is " the Storm is a stepping stone for them to get the the next level",  this is a good example of that" said Meza.   Aaron Perez -Goalkeeper  Goal   L A Blues have played 8 games of the 2013 season and are second in the USL Pro Standings with a record of 4 wins 3 losses and 1 tie for 13 points. The Blues will play tonight at the Home Depot Center and then on May 17th will travel to Virgina to face the Richmond Kickers and will not return back home until May 31st. .  The wishes Aaron the best in his soccer career and success with his new team . Storm players capture top honors by NPSL as player of the week

 Storms Andres Bueno and Tyler Coombes name player of the the week two weeks in a row.
 Andres Bueno was named player of the week for his 2 goals in a 2-1 win over the San Digo Flash on April 21st in San Diego. Tyler Coombes just announced captured the honor this week for his 2 goal game in the 2-1 win over F C Hasental on April 27th at Home at Canyon High School . 
 Andres Bueno capitalized on both finishing opportunities for the Storm to not only secure the team the win, but also secure him-self the Player of the Game for the night. Bueno needed no more than seven minutes before seeing his first scoring opportunity.Storm's Alex Harlley almost had one of his own from 22 yards out. He earned himself a hard shot after carrying the ball though several Flash midfielders and defenders.  To no success, the shot was a direct  shot into the waiting arms of Nicolas Harpel  the Flash Goalkeeper. No more than 12 minutes later (19th Minute) Andres Bueno received a pass form the right side of the
field as Mauricio Harrie slid it through to a poised Bueno who bent a shot around Harpel hitting the far post and ricocheting in to capture the first goal of the game. Then once again in the 33rd minute on a pass from Harlley, Bueno wasted no time in putting what ended up the winning goal in the 2-1 score.

 Tyler Coombes last week took control of each scoring opportunity, in the 14th minute of play Coombes tagged the ball out of the air on a volley and slapped a shot the Hasental's goal keeper could only sit and watch go by. And then in the 47th minute of play  on a counter attack last weeks player of the week Andres Bueno directed a pass though defenders to Coombes you out maneuvered the defense and placed what became the winning goal in a 2-1 score line. That was also the third win in a row for the Storm putting them within one point of division leaders O C Pateadores . 

 Catch Bueno and Coombes as well as all the Storm players at the next home game May 11th in a 6pm kick off facing the Las Vegas Stallions who the Storm beat 4-3 in there season home opener on April 13th.

Storm wind three in a row with 2-1 victory over F.C. Hasental

  Santa Clarita, California - It was a battle for first place as the Storm (2-1-0) looked to take first and an undefeated F.C Hasental (2-0-1) looked to maintain the top seed. The Storm have a knack for breaking an opponent's winning streak, as they did with the Flash at the end of last season in the last game of last season when the Storm broke an entire undefeated season away from them, and looked to nip Hasental's streak
in the bud Saturday night at Harry Welch Stadium in Canyon High School, and did so in a 2 - 1 win!
        The action started at the opening whistle and no more than 3 minutes into the half Hasental fouled the Storm in there offensive third of the field, at the 23 yard line, earning F.C.S.C a free kick. Alex Harlley of the Storm stepped forward to take the kick, and like a shot out of a gun he fired a shot that landed right into the hands of Terry Mitchell - the Hasental net-minder. Hasental responded quickly off of a free kick they
were awarded with a shot that was just shy of the target. It was the 14th minute when Tyler Coombes caught a ball at the 16 yard line & volleyed it out of the air and slammed it past Mitchell & into the back of the net, giving his team lead early in the game.
 The remainder of the first  half was a balanced effort on the part of both teams leaving it at 1-0 as the two teams made their way into the second half of play.

       The already aggressively offensive Hasental was expected to come on strong in the second half with the current game and their unbeaten streak at stake. But it was in fact The Storm who dominated as no more than two minutes into the half Forward Tyler Coombes found a break through the Hasental defense and put his team ahead by two. It was a counter attack off of the opening kick-off when Andreas Bueno (last week's Player of the Game) intercepted the ball at midfield, allowing the Hasental defenders to quickly close in on him & leaving a wide open Coombes to break free and through to the net to get the insurance goal. Coombes picked up his second goal of the game and his 3rd on the year, giving him a total of 7 points on the season, with his assist included.       Hasental had sparks of attempts through out the second half but second half sub (goalkeeper) Miguel Lopez; who came in to replace starter Aaron Perez, managed to turn each and every attempt away, collecting himself 6 saves in the half.The one goal for Hasental was scored by substitution Leu Luciap on a penalty kick in the
80th minute, after Lopez connected with the face of Hasental's Manuel Cazares when attempting to punch the ball out of the box off of a cross. The center official decided that because Miguel came out to punch the ball with a closed fist instead of an open hand that a Penalty Kick should be rewarded, and so Hasental was able to erase the clean sheet.The Storm would like to wish a quick recovery to Manuel and we regret this very
unfortunate accident. The Storm now maintain a 3-0-1 record with 9 points.They are currently one point out of 1st behind the undefeated Patadores who took over 1st place last Saturday defeating the San Diego Boca 8 - 0! .... Guess who's in the eye of the Storm now?

The Storm Continues to Rain Down on the South West Division with a 2-1 Win Over Southern Rival The San Diego Flash

Santa Clarita, California- Saturday night at Del Norte High School in San Diego was the scene of a re-match from the 2012 season, where the Storm spoiled a potentially undefeated season for the Flash by beating them in Santa Clarita for the final game of the 2012 season. Saturday night was also the first meeting for these two teams here on the 2013 season. The Flashes were hosting and coming off of a 2-0 loss to the L.A
Pateadores last week on the road. The Flash was hoping for a victory in front of their home town fans for the first time this season. However it was the Storm again who spoiled things for the Flash as the Storm scored two goals in the first 33 minutes of the game and made it stand as the Storm beat the Southern rivals 2-1 in front of a Flash home town crown of about 200 fans! In the 33rd minute Alex Harlley carried the ball down the right side about 25 yards out and managed a through pass threading the Flash defenders to reach Bueno once again who quickly slipped it passed the reach of a stretched out Harpel for the his second goal and what was to be the game winner. 
The second 45 minutes was the Flash that managed to come back just three minutes into the second half to come within one after a maylay of players in front of the Storm net and the home team got one passed Perez. But again the Storm controlled most of the game even with the attempt of sevearl shots on target.

Unfortunately all were qucikly extinguished by either the Storm defenders or Perez between the pipes.  Storm managed to maintain their one goal lead to finish the game with a 2-1 victory and one
point out of the Top spot in the South West Conference.The Storm will face first place Hasental next week April 27th at home Canyon High in a 5pm match up that will be a battle for first place!

Storm Wins Home Opener 4-3 Over Las Vegas

Santa Clarita, CA - The Storm moved in quickly Saturday Night at Harry Welch Stadium. The Home team put three goals on the board within 3 minutes in in 4-3 win in their home opener. It was Julio Lopez, Derek Dodrill and Mauricio Harrie who in the 23rd, 25th and 26th minutes of play put the Storm on the board and in the lead in the first half.  The Storm completely controlled the game the first 45 minutes of play, when in the 23rd minute the Storm's Julio Lopez started the

scoring off. A throw-in pass to Lopez allowed him to get a quick shot to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later off of a corner kick from Lopez, defender Derek Dodrill took the cross and headed it passed the Stallions goal-keeper Julio Garcia. Fina-lly on a very quick turnover the Storm's Tyler Coombes completed a pass to Mauricio Harrie who found himself in the box, pulling Garcia out and lobbing the ball to the far post to catch Garcia off balanced and out of his net to put away the third goal in as many minutes.  The Storm held the Stallions F.C to only one shot, however the second 45 minutes was a whole different story as the Stallions found new life and came out with a desire and started controlling the ball. Just 11 minutes into the second half Edgar Luna of the Stallions took a shot across his body and from 30 yards out and blasted a shot that was just inches from the fingers of Storm 'keeper Miguel Lopez and Luna had put the Stallions on the
board with their first goal of the season. That gave the Las Vegas team what they needed and they started to apply much more consistent pressure to the Storm. No more than five minutes
later they came back on the attack and in the 61st minute forward Gerardo Romero received a pass from Luna in the box and capitilzed on it to put his team within 1 in what was now a
3-2 contest. In the 68th minute on a recovered pass the Storm began an attack lead by second half substitute Vicente Arredondo at the 20 yard line, took a shot that hit a Stallion player and
landed in front of Tyler Coombes who put in what ended up to be the game winner. In the 78th minute the Stallions challenged that with an attack quickly taking a shot on target that keeper
Miguel Lopez came out and saved! However the ball took a bounce off of Lopez and the Stallions Anthony Escamilla picked up the loose ball and but his team within one again. The Stallions F.C still determined pressed for the next 26 minutes of regular and stoppage time, but the Storm defense held the visitors off to pick up the 'W' and three much needed points in their home opener victory..

Storm falls short in Open Cup

Storm falls short in Open Cup  Hasental doubles up on Storm 2-1

Santa Carita, California, Storm came on strong at the Whistle but finished short in a 2-1 loss At Harry Welch Stadium Saturday night in the second leg of the US Open Cup Qualifier. Tyler Coombes the Storms top goal score last season, started the 2nd leg of the Open Cup Qualifiers right where he left off, with a goal in the 9th minute of play off a pass from Ricky Cruz to out maneuver Cesar Ventura the Hasental Keeper. Hasental came back with a series of passing in the 14th minute when defender Marcial Cazares took on keeper Aaron Perez in a one on one and beat the Perez to even the score, and it was a battle the rest of the first half of play. Robbie Gouk -Forward The second 45 minutes the visitors came out have most of the possession and in the 59th minute it paid off as Alberto Anguiano received a pass form Gustavo Villalobes took take the lead and what became the winning goal for Hasental.The Storm put on a show of shots in the last six minutes of play that included 4 minutes of stoppage time. Several excellent opportunities the last several minutes, Ricky Cruz blasted a shot the hit the cross bar and Captain Matthew Shaxton on a restart it a rocket on target but it found the hands of Ventura. With only minute left Robbie Gouk on the bench for forward Mauricio Harrie caused a may-lay of havoc up front bringing on several shots but with no luck. F.C. Hasental will go on and face the winner of Sundays match between San Diego Boca and the Sand Diego Flash for the one representative in the Open Cup for the South West Division of the Western Conference of the NPSL.

Storm Adds to Roster - Resigns Veteran Defenders

3/15/13 - Santa Clarita, California; The Santa Clarita Storm announced today that they have resigned veteran defenders Derek Dodrill, Robert Hill, Allan Gutierrez and Able Hinjosa; all are returners from the 2012 season.

Derek Dodrill was the iron man of the back line, battling game in and game out with players much larger than his 5' 8” 135lb stature. Dodrill played more minutes last season then anyone on the roster gathering 1,260 minutes in 14 games, starting each and every one. Completing the stronghold in the back with Gutierrez, Hill and Hinjosa who all will continue to remain a force to be reckoned with  in the Southwest Division in 2013.

The Storm will have a total of 13 players from last years very successful season returning to the team. Last season the Storm finished second in the South West Division, no more than a few victories behind the San Diego Flash. The Storm also qualified for the N.P.S.L playoffs for the first time in the teams six year history. Other returning players that  have resign with the Santa Clarita Storm team are forward/defender Robbie Gouk, midfielder Vicente Arredondo, forward Cedrigue Nguimzon, & midfielder Jesus Lopez.

The Storm will carry a roster of 34 players-31 field players and 3 keepers-with a total of six new stars from the Santa Clarita Valley

Returners Andres Bueno & Able Hinjosa

David Alegria, Jeff Lucatero, Nicholas Rowin, Daniel Neumann Joel Gunterman & Jose Esquivel (all pending U.S.S.F. and N.P.S.L. approval) the Storm have also signed goalkeepers  Miguel Lopez and Aaron Perez. (Lopez is awaiting International clearness from the U.S.S.F and the N.P.S.L.) Lopez has returned to the states after a tour of duty with the United States Navy in Germany where he had signed with and played with Kreisligen B, Omonia Griech FV Vaihingen achieving 2,070 minutes played only allowing 7 goals and scored a goal of his own. Aaron Perez has a Pack 10 background in Football with U.C.L.A, and even earned himself a professional contract with the New England Patriots  However he decided to switch sports and concentrate on soccer, earning an invite to train and tryout with one of the top men’s amateur teams; Doxa Italia. He played against C.S.U.D.H and the L.A Galaxy U-19 teams and established himself as the #1 keeper. His team went on to win the Coast Soccer League but lost in the U.S Open Cup to Cal F.C in 2012. Aaron last spent time between the pipes with Santa Monica Sporting F.C up to & just prior to singing with the Storm. Look for Perez to be a solid addition to the Storm.

Santa Clarita Storm is looking for another good strong season with 13 core players and adding additional talent should do nothing but strengthen the team.  March 23rd will be the first real test as the Storm will face F.C Hasental in the Open Cup Qualifier at Canyon High School. Kick-off is at 5pm, the gates open at  4:00pm, tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids under 14 years of age, and kids 5 and under are free.
