Chivas USA 4 Santa Clarita Storm 1

Storm drops a 4-1 loss to Chivas USA
in friendly at the Home Depot Center
 Game summary:
Carson-California- Chivas and the Santa Clarita Storm took the first step in a new relationship as the faced each other in Carson at the Home Depot Center In a Scrimmage game. A game that looked to be a real even match, at least for the first quarter of the game. The it would be Chivas who broke open and took advantage of an  opening in the back line of the Storm and brought keeper Steven Rodriguez off of his line and quickly and easily took the lead. With the Storm defense still gathering themselves the Chivas broke though again and after several attempts right in front of the net the Chivas finely  got one up and in past Rodriguez to collect their second goal in the first 30minutes of play.
Then just three minutes after the Chivas second goal, returner Miguel Ibarra broke away from the midfield and dribbled past several Chivas Midfielder and a couple of defenders Ibarra slapped a shot to the far post and out of the keeper reach to bring the Storm with in one.
Miguel Ibarra who played with the Storm since 2008 when they where located in the Antelope Valley and playing under the brand of Lancaster Rattlers FC , was taken in the second round of the MLS draft last year by the Portland Timbers who sold the rights to the Minnesota Stars of the North American Soccer Leagues. Miguel on break and not returning to the Stars until February 20th join his old team to play again where his professional career started.
Tyler Coombes at Home Depot Center vs Chivas USA
The First half was capped off by a fourth goal for the Chivas in the 41 at. Minute. Of play.
All of the action was in the first half of the game, after the half time break and some re arranging the Storm came on a lot stronger and held the Chivas from capitalizing on any opportunities. The Storm had most of it’s quality shots in the second half, Forward Tyler Coombes missed a excellent opportunity with a pass from Jesus Lopez up the middle Coombes caught the ball at his feet and got the Chivas keeper off guard but the shot went wide. Mauricio Harrie had an opportunity and the ball was being passed around at the 6 yard line in front of the Chivas net and it popped loose in the air as Harrie took a half attempted at a bicycle kick to land in the hand of the keeper.
Miguel Ibbara had another chance late in the second half as he received the ball and broke away with just him and the keeper, but the Keeper came off his line quickly and was able to corral the ball extinguishing the threat.
The Chivas and the Storm will be working on establishing a relationship that will include another game but in Santa Clarita and perhaps a third game  later on in the year.

Persists Pays Off ,Power of Positive Thinking

Alex Harley gets Hat Trick in 5-5 Tie
 Tyler Coombes picks up two

Forward Alex Harlley
Tyler Coombes; the Storm's top scorer last season, combined with Alex on two of his own to total 5 for the Storm. The game began with a very exciting start as the Storm started to attack quickly and with immediate pressure on the High Rollers. In the 8th minute of play Harlley had control of the ball on the outside &
moved quickly to the midfield drawing on the 'keeper to his side & passing it forward to Tyler Coombes. The High Rollers 'keeper was knocked off balance diving for the ball, fouling Coombes & not only earning himself a yellow card but also awarding the Storm with a penalty kick. Harlley took the kick, slowly
approaching the ball and firing it right past the 'keepers feet. That put a fire under the High Rollers as they started an attack themselves & taking only 15 minutes to respond as in the 23rd minute of play the High Rollers picked up a short slow miss pass by veteran defender Robert Hill just a few yards in front of the net and simply looped it past Storm goalkeeper Steven Rodriguez for the equalizer. No more than
six minute later the same sort of play took place in front of the Storm net creating a clear opportunity for the High Rollers in witch they promptly took the advance of and the lead.

With all the momentum on the side of the High Rollers they attacked with continued pressure completely disorganizing the Storm defense, & in only another 13 minutes (36th minute) the High Rollers took a two goal lead as a play generated out of the midfield and lead to a little outside shot with accuracy to
end the first half with the High Rollers up by two with the score;  High Rollers: 3, your F.C.S.C Storm with 1.

Captain Matthew Shaxton
Tyler Coombes
With the second half starting the Storm came out with some excellent passing combinations and shots, ending up unlucky in each an every attempt on goal. Until the 65th minute when on the attack, midfielder Jesus Lopez was set up atop the right side of the 18 yard box and brought the 'keeper out towards him. Lopez passed the ball off to Coombes who positioned himself behind the High Rollers 'keeper and quickly collected the second goal for the Storm. Down by one and 25 minutes to play the Storm were fired up and more aggressive in their attack. Out shooting the High Rollers but coming up empty with each opportunity. But in the 70th minute it was the High Rollers who prevailed with another goal, now with a another two goal lead It appeared the High Rollers where in position to get a victory with only 20 minutes left in regulation. It seemed that the possession was about even on both sides until in the 80th minute Harlley received a pass form captain Matthew Shaxton putting a shot right passed the High Roller 'keeper and
bringing the Storm once again within one of catching up on the High Rollers. Finally, in the 83th minute of play, veteran defender Robbie Gouk carried the ball up the middle of the field and from about 40 yards out; took a rocket of a shot that was in no ones reach to tie the game ... but nearly missing the goal.      The attacked switched to the High Rollers who appeared to have the game already when with one quick shot off of a counter, took yet another two goal lead and this time with only six minutes left in regulation. Now a 5 - 3 margin and only six minutes left, most thought the chances of wining was all the High Rollers side
who just continued to attack and attack the seemed to be deflated Storm.  However the game is never over until the final whistle blows, in the 87th minute the Storm continued its attack when Coombes took the ball through midfield & worked his way though the High Roller defense and busted into an open slot a few
yards from goal to collect his second goal on the night and putting the Storm within one  from gaining at least one point in the standings. It was down to only a couple of minutes left in the game, and the High Rollers attempting to take advantage of that using up minutes, however the Storm's top scorers Coombes and
Harley teamed up on the attack with Coombes having a clear opportunity to even the score, but a quick pass to his awaiting teammate Harlley awarded him with the hat trick as the Storm came back from what seemed to be the impossible, with a display of team work and effort from the entire Storm squad using the entire
bench to walk away with at least one point
